\u00c1rst\u00ed\u00f0ir, the Icelandic folk band that has gained international recognition for its distinctive sound and atmospheric arrangements, has created an extraordinary a cappella album with Vetrars\u00f3l \u2013 Voices of the Winter Sun. This collection of 12 songs offers a deep insight into traditional Icelandic vocal and choral music \u2013 full of emotion and cultural depth. <\/p>\n

The band gained international recognition in 2013 when a video of their spontaneous a cappella performance of Heyr himna smi\u00f0ur\u2014a hymn from 1208 written by Kolbeinn Tumason and set to music by \u00deorkell Sigurbj\u00f6rnsson in 1972\u2014went viral in a German train station. This powerful performance shows why the band is appreciated worldwide. <\/p>\n

This anthem is now also featured on their new album. The moving B\u00e6n einst\u00e6\u00f0ingsins also finds its place, a song based on a poem by the Icelandic hermit G\u00edsli \u00e1 Upps\u00f6lum that captures the loneliness of a secluded life. <\/p>\n

A particular highlight is Lj\u00f3sfa\u00f0ir, a composition arranged especially for the album by Sigur\u00f0ur Flosason, which takes the band into previously unheard soundscapes.<\/p>\n

The album was recorded both at the band’s studio in Reykjav\u00edk and at Studio Nashville, located in an old television studio in Iceland. Vetrars\u00f3l \u2013 Voices of the Winter Sun reflects the magic and tranquility of the Icelandic winter sun and showcases the band’s fascinating soundscape in its purest form.
